Background
Bayshore Healthcare is a home care solution provider with over 100 locations across Canada and over 13,500 staff providing care to over 350,000 clients. They have a culture dedicated to enhancing quality of life, dignity, and independence for the clients in their care. When evaluating new hires, culture fit is one of the most important criteria, one that Ramy Mikhail is acutely aware of. Ramy is the Corporate Controller, in charge of the finance department of the largest division of Bayshore with a team of 35 individuals and has been in senior leadership roles for over 12 years. In that time he’s seen how culture fit affects the success of a new hire to a role on his team.
Challenges
Bayshore has been growing and needing new talent to help them achieve their mission, while also maintaining the integrity of their teams as they experience natural attrition rates of a company their size. Ramy from time to time has needed to find new staff to fill roles that had the appropriate skill set, but also fit in with the culture of the organization and the specific culture of his team.
“We’ve had situations where the wrong person is in the role” Said Ramy, continuing “When a person is not the right fit, they struggle for a while, they have lower productivity and it affects the productivity of the team. When it’s clear they aren’t working out they either leave or have to be replaced. It then takes more time, effort, and personal frustration to find a new person. Hiring the right people is a reflection on myself and my ability to build and lead a team so this is critical for me to get right.”
Ramy has used traditional recruiters and new online platforms to try and find the right people but neither has been ideal. Online tools seem to miss aspects that indicate culture fit and even other recruiters missed important clues. He still had to do lots of interviews and screen candidates that recruiters sent to him to find good fits. He needed a better process to have someone find the right talent while also saving him the extraordinary amount of time this took.
How Insight Recruitment Helped.
Shannon Mandla from Insight Recruitment was able to deliver. After working for 15 years in recruitment and building a reputation for being extremely effective, Shannon started Insight Recruitment, a firm based on her particular ability and processes to find the right talent to fit an organization’s culture.
What Insight was able to do for Bayshore was to develop the right questions to ask candidates and through that consistently deliver the right candidates. Insight first starts by building an in-depth culture profile of the company & department she is recruiting for, and building a job vision / role description with the hiring team. “Shannon spent as much time screening me as she does potential candidates.” Said Ramy. “She also helped me clarify not just a job description but helped me hone in on the vision of the job. She really helped me work through what I wanted to get out of a strategic hire.”
This thorough understanding of culture and fit was critical to finding the right strategic candidates. And instead of flooding Ramy with candidates for each role, Insight spent time to find quality over quantity, and would only send over candidates that really met the whole requirements, saving Ramy time and frustration.
Summary:
Insight Recruitment is who we trust to fill our most strategic roles because they know our culture, help us build the right candidate profile for a role and are successful at finding caliber people to fill them.
“Part of my success as a manager is being able to delegate effectively. Shannon at Insight Recruitment is like one of my managers. I can outsource the recruitment of the right caliber people and trust her to get the job done.” Ramy Mikhail, Corporate Controller – Bayshore Healthcare
